Bulgarian Spices
The most popular Bulgarian spice is called - Chubritsa (Savory). This plant, which botanists claim to be a species of the herb "Satureia hortensis", appears to grow particularly well upon Bulgarian soil. It also shares certain characteristics with the so-popular Oregano (Origanum vulgare). The chubritsa (chubritza) dried leaves are used for many kinds of bulgarian dishes.
Bulgarians use many different vegetables like potatoes, cabbage (both green and red), carrots, tomatoes, green peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, garlic, zucchini, pumpkin, onions (yellow and green), peas, spinach, green and lima beans, lettuce, radishes, turnips, mushrooms and olives. All of these basic ingredients are grown in Bulgaria.
