Borislav Mikhailov

Borislav Mikhailov (born February 12, 1962) is a former Bulgarian football player, playing as a goalkeeper. Mikhailov was captain of the Bulgarian National Football Team during their surprising fourth-place run at the 1994 World Cup in USA, as well in Euro 96. Borislav Mikhailov’s debut for the Bulgarian national team was on 4 May, 1983 against Cuba (5:2) Mikhailov’s also played at the 1986 World Cup and is currently the all-time appearance leader for the Bulgarian national team with 102 matches played. Borislav Mikhailov has 188 matches in group A of the Bulgarian championship. Mikhailov is considered to be the most successful goalkeeper in the history of the Bulgarian football.

Throughout his career Borislav Mihaylov has played for Levski (Sofia) from 1981 to 1989, Belenenzez (Portugal) from 1989 to 1992, Milouse (France) from 1992 to 1994, Botev (Plovdiv) from 1994 to 1995, Redding (UK) from 1995 to 1997 and Slavia (Sofia) from 1997 to 1998.

After retiring from active sports Borislav Mikhailov started career in football administration. Mikhailov was vice-president of the Bulgarian Football Union from 2001 until 2005, when he replaced Ivan Slavkov as president. In 1998 Borislav Mikhailov married Maria Petrova, a former prominent rhythmic gymnast.
