Armen Nazaryan

Armen Nazaryan was born on March 9, 1974 in Erevan (Armenia). Nazaryan started wrestling in 1982. Nazaryan’s first coach was Robert Asevyan. Armen Nazaryan’s preferable discipline is Graeco-Roman style. Nazaryan’s initial category was 52 kg. Currently he is playing in the 60 kg. category. In 1983 Armen Nazaryan won his firs gold medal at the City Championships in Erevan. As a junior wrestler Nazaryan won a bronze medal in the 1992 world championship, became a World champion in 1993, and European champion in 1994.

Armen Nazaryan initially wanted to compete for France, but the French team said they didn't have the money to take him. Nazaryanchose Bulgaria partly because his girlfriend lived there, but mainly because of an offer made by Slavia Litex wrestling club, where six of the eight members of the 1999 World Champions team trained.

Armen Nazaryan’s titles and medals won for Armenia – in total 6 include an olympic gold medal in Atlanta 1996, two silver medals in the Stockholm World Championship 1993 and Prague 1995, and two European titles – Athens 1994 and Besanson 1995. Nazaryan is also a silver medalist in Budapest 1996.

Nazaryan’s titles and medals won for Bulgaria – in total 12 include:
• Olympic medalist from Sidney 2000, bronze medal in Athens 2004
• Two world gold medals in Moscow 2002 and Kretey 2003 and three bronze medals in Vrozlaw 1997, Yevle 1998 and Athens 1999
• Four European gold medalist in Minsk 1998, Sofia 1999, Seinaioki 2002 and Belgrade 2003, silver medalist in Moscow 2000
• Twice winner of the title World Top Wrestler – 1998 and 2003
• Winner in his category in the match the USA vs. the Rest of the World in 2002, he defeats Jim Grundwald with 3:1 points.

At the last world wrestling championship (2005) in Budapest Armen Nazaryan won a gold medal in Graeco-Roman style (60 kg).
Armen Nazaryan is six times champion of Armenia and six times champion of Bulgaria. Nazaryan’s idols are Alexander Karelin (Russia) – Greco Roman wrestling, and Valentin Yordanov (Bulgaria) – freestyle wrestling
